I am so excited to get to know you more. I bring my whole self to this work, which includes my fight for equity and justice. I am not a photographer who separates my beliefs and passions from photographing humans because I don’t believe they’re separate. I can't ask you to be vulnerable if I'm not willing to do the same.
Is there anything better than exchanging vows in front of a beautiful ocean coastline with all of your closest friends and family? If you’re looking for the perfect place to do this in Maine, Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth may be just what you are looking for.
This beautiful inn not only offers amazing views of the water but also has stunning grounds that create a dreamy backdrop for your wedding. Plus, you can kick off your honeymoon right at the hotel in one of their amazing rooms! What more could you ask for?
As a New England wedding photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of photographing at this incredible venue (as well as many others around the New England area). Let’s take a look at some of the best things about an Inn by the Sea wedding and how Hannah and Brett were able to create their dream weekend!
Just a few miles away from Portland, you will find the Inn by the Sea on Cape Elizabeth. Not only will you get to enjoy the beauty of the Inn, but you can also explore the serene town of Cape Elizabeth and learn more about its history and even visit lighthouses!
When it comes to the Inn itself, you can’t ask for much more. You can get rooms right at the Inn, so you don’t have to worry about traveling back and forth, and their rooms have stunning views as well! You can have your actual wedding ceremony with a beautiful ocean view and stick around for an amazing sunset on the beach with your partner.
The Inn can also accommodate anywhere from just you and your partner to 175 guests, so whether you are planning an intimate elopement or a large wedding, they have you covered. The lawn on the property is everything you could dream of for your reception, and you will have beautiful seasonal plants and flowers surrounding you and a giant white tent covering your entire reception area.
Not only is the property at the Inn beautiful, but you also have access to the private path just for guests of the Inn that leads down to the beautiful shoreline of the beach. The white sand beach with the waves crashing into it creates the perfect backdrop for intimate pictures after you tie the knot!
As if an Inn by the Sea wedding could get any better, on top of the beautiful beach, gorgeous grounds, and amazing rooms, the Inn is also dog friendly! We all know how hard it is to leave our furry friends behind on such a special day like this, but you don’t have to worry about that at the Inn, and your dog can even be included in your ceremony!
Now that you know a bit about the Inn by the Sea and why it is such a great place for your wedding, let’s take a look at the magical weekend that Hannah and Brett planned.
Hannah and Brett’s story starts with a bit of fate. They first met on a dating app and started talking but never actually ended up meeting in person. Then about a year later, they matched again, and the second time was the charm because they have been together ever since.
While they were both living in New York City when they met, they spent about 4 months in Portland together during the pandemic, and it became a very special place to them. When it was time to pop the question, they even got engaged in Portland! This just made having their wedding in Maine eve more special and meaningful to them.
Hannah and Brett decided to have a September wedding, and it was so beautiful. Fall in Maine is incredible — the changing leaves against the blue ocean! They had blue skies and no clouds, and it just created the perfect atmosphere for their dream outdoor wedding.
To kick off the wedding festivities, they took a welcome cruise out of Portland, and it was amazing. Everyone was having such a great time, and the water was absolutely stunning. They did this through the Portland Schooner Company and it was such a special way to start the weekend.
If you are looking for something similar, you can book private charters with them in Portland, Freeport, and other locations. They have charters that range from 6 people all the way up to 49 guests!
They both got ready at the Inn itself (which is another plus to having a wedding venue that is also a hotel!), and the suites gave everyone in their wedding party plenty of room to move around. When it came to their colors, they opted for a more muted palette with whites and blues that complimented the ocean and created the perfect, serene beach vibe.
Before the ceremony started, they decided to do a first look which I always love. Not only was this one of the most memorable moments to capture, but it also gave them a bit of time alone to see each other and connect before they walked down the aisle. As amazing as your wedding day is, it can also be a little hectic, and even just a couple of minutes alone with your partner before everything starts can be just what you need!
They did a Ketubah signing which was a beautiful moment, and then they were ready to walk down the aisle. They had an emotional ceremony out on the lawn at the Inn and in a twist on the 7 blessings, they had special friends and family give readings that they had written.
They were also able to include their pup Monty in their wedding (which was a big reason why the Inn at the Sea was the perfect venue for them). He was definitely the star of the show, especially during the ceremony when he did a bit of snacking on the greens covering the chuppah. It’s exhausting being a ring dog — you really work up an appetite!
After the ceremony, they had a cocktail hour where everyone was able to enjoy the beauty of the Inn and just a small bit of what it has to offer. A few of the guests opted to sit back and relax in some of the lawn chairs and take in the view, while others enjoyed a few games before sitting down for the reception. We were even able to catch some sunset portraits on the beach to cap off what was just an absolutely perfect day for the two of them!
Their tented reception was stunning and created an intimate place for the newlyweds and all of their guests to celebrate the start of this next chapter in their lives together. The toasts from their family and friends were hilarious and heartfelt and were such a testament to the incredible people Hannah and Brett are both as individuals and together as a couple. There was plenty of room for everyone to hit the dance floor, and it was a party from start to finish.
From the welcome cruise to the very last song of the night, Hannah and Brett’s Inn by the Sea wedding was more than anyone could have dreamed of. Everything about the day was absolutely magical, and the location just made this special day even more beautiful.
If you are looking for the perfect place to have a coastal wedding in Maine, Inn by the Sea definitely needs to be at the top of your list. They have everything you could want for your dream wedding day, and the location just can’t be beaten.
