Brittany and Eric were married on the most perfect spring day last May at the Haley Mansion in Mystic, Connecticut. They are the true example that there is no such thing as a “perfect” day and that it doesn’t matter what goes wrong the day of your wedding – marrying the love of your life will always make up for any mishaps. The Haley Mansion is a beautiful old home, situated atop a rocky hill that looks out over the ocean. Despite everything the universe tried to throw their way, this couple took it in stride. Their first look was an emotional outlet where they each finally got to let out a breath and be together. One my favorite things Brittany and Eric decided to do was write their own vows and then privately share them. This moment was so deeply personal and emotional and I felt blessed to witness it. Tears streamed down their faces and laughter filled the space between them. The love between them was palpable. The wedding day goes by so quickly so I always encourage couples to find ways to have that private time together to appreciate the other person.
Their ceremony was held at the foot of the hill, with trees and water views behind the couple. The wedding party processes in over the hill and makes for such a beautiful and dramatic moment. Watching Brittany and Eric lock eyes the entire time she came down the hill with her father was really special. They did a Scottish handfasting using the MacLeod family tartan during the ceremony, a tradition that is seen as a way of strengthening the vows and commitment to your married relationship. Following the ceremony, they enjoyed an open tented reception with hilarious speeches and serious dancing! For their first dance, they chose the song “Hopeless Wanderer” by Mumford and Sons which ended with the entire wedding party joining in. These two are just the absolute life of the party and it was such a blast to be part of their celebration. Happy anniversary you two!
